Part of a larger plan to renovate, secure and embellish Becquerel square, which is used as a car park for the nearby secondary school

A Power Road® system has been clearing the snow from Becquerel square since 2018. The system is connected to the district heating network, which is powered by the residual energy produced by the area’s waste incinerator.

The revamp improved convenience and safety: it has reduced the risks of accidents for the school’s students, staff and visitors.

A few key figures

Installation:

  • Power Road® area: 3,500 sq. metres
  • Car park
  • 30 school buses a day
  • Heat exchanger: 800 kW
  • Power: 400 to 800 kW from the district heating network

Praise for Power Road®

The FNTP (French national public works federation) gave the project an award in the green infrastructure and growth category.

“Setting up a surfacing system that clears snow automatically tied in well with our plan to carry out necessary renovation work on ageing infrastructure while the district heating network was being extended. We also wanted to use less salt, which harms the road and the environment. And it works!”

Patrick Genre, Mayor of Pontarlier.
