Heating a lab, clearing snow from a stretch of road and cooling the surrounding in summer

Eurovia Deutschland worked closely alongside RWTH Aachen University on this Power Road® pilot. As a result, Eurovia now has a fully functional demonstrator for the Power Road® system’s three modes. A 60 sq. metre section of road harvests heat. The system clears ice and snow from the road and heats one of the university’s labs in winter. And numerous sensors were set up to measure Power Road®’s cooling effect in summer.

A few key figures

Installation:

  • Power Road® area: 60 sq. metres
  • Inter-season storage: equivalent to 7 MWh
  • Water-to-water heat pump: 6 kW
